Canning in Appalachia

Watched my mother, now and then,
Cutting and slicing, cutting and slicing,
While okra and green beans go by in a can.
Dad's at work, Coal mining.
Only ones home, Me and my mom.
Ain't going past her, to get my toy.
She'll call me, to help her,
Not gonna go, Not gonna go
She'll make me work the whole day.
She finds me, lurking in the shadows
Calls me over, and I'm thinking
NOTHING CAN SAVE ME NOW
