Butterflies
In my stomach
What a silly metaphor
Makes no sense
Seems so much scarier
Feels like a beast
Gnawing at my insides
Engulfing me in fear
Will it never end?

Heart
Beating fast
What an incorrect statement
More violent than that
Pitter-patter pounding
Taking all control
Of everything inside me
Swallowing my words, satisfied
Will it never cease?

Embrace
Extended and passionate
What a lie it is
Not just a friendly hug
Though they think of it that way
Repeating this feeling
Of love, strong and determined
Clinging on to my tattered heart
Will it never quit?

Love
True and flawless
What an exaggeration
Much more complicated, intense
Friend falls for friend
Messing up everything
Hurting us both
With a single strong feeling
Will it never stop?

The author's comments:
Being in love with my best friend but not being able to tell them inspired me to write this piece. I hope that others will be able to relate to it and understand how it shows love as sometimes a negative thing and how complicated it can truly be.
