Opening the great wooden double doors,
like a warrior greeting his battle,
I’m an ant in a sea of giants,
all striving for a purpose.

In time,
I’ll be flipping a tassel to the other side
of my cap.
There will be applause,
and my parents will be proud.

I’ll be given the golden key to adulthood,
Possibly the most significant paper of my life.
I’ll have to start making my own decisions,
as an individual.

I’ll be scared.
My mom won’t be there,
to pack my lunch,
or hold my hand.

That day will be exciting,
It’ll be an adventure.
I’ll be Indiana Jones,
just like I used to pretend.

But today,
I don’t want to think about that.
I don’t know who I’ll be in four years.
For now,
I’m just worrying about my test tomorrow,

and that’s just fine with me.
