So close.
That day I saw what was to become of me
I saw the blood trickling to the floor.
I saw her limping over as the men looked.
I was hiding, I wanted to escape.
She kept her promise to me.
So I kept mine the door.
I ran to it, while it was open.
They weren’t in sight, I ran down the hill.
I was at the gate, it wasn’t locked.
Opening it and running out I found something.
I stopped where I stood. People staring,
At my ragged hair and clothes, that is when it hit.
I was in my own neighborhood. I was already home.
I was only a few blocks away.
Yet they couldn’t find me. The people started to come around me.
I just yelled.
