The rhythmic bouncing of the ball
The shuffle of feet close behind
Instinct takes over
Dodging enemies left and right
I make my way to the basket
Time freezes
The court empties
One spotlight on me
The basket in another
My knees bend
And I leap
The ball sails through the air
I land holding my breath
Waiting for the sound of the ball falling through the net
Clank
It bounces off the rim and falls back to the Earth
My moment is over
The disappointment is brief
For excitement quickly takes over
I turn and try again
