Confrontation

December 2, 2010

The Wolf nears and corners
BunnyRabbit trembles
BunnyRabbit screams
Runaway
Runaway
Runaway
Runaway
BunnyRabbit's feet don't move
BunnyRabbit's mind does not cooperate with its body
As its flesh is peeled off
Layer by layer
Its true skin is revealed
Wolf smiles.
Wolf's teeth are wide
Wolf's teeth are sharp.
Wolf teeth pull BunnyRabbit into submission.
Wolf paws press BunnyRabbit to the ground
The ground trembles.
BunnyRabbit trembles.
Wolf's growl drones out into the background.
All BunnyRabbit hears is the sound of its tiny BunnyRabbit heart
Lunging in its throat and back to its BunnyRabbit Ribcage
BunnyRabbit can't scream anymore.
BunnyRabbit is silent
Drowned into the background and gold and green abyss.
Wolf dismounts
BunnyRabbit is not worth the trouble.
BunnyRabbit shakes.
BunnyRabbit silently pulls itself into a ball.
BunnyRabbit stares
Lifeless eyes shaking and black
Wolf runs off to rejoin its pack
BunnyRabbit's eyes swell in BunnyRabbit Tears
BunnyRabbit preens itself with its BunnyRabbit Padded Paws
BunnyRabbit tastes its blood
BunnyRabbit breaks down.
BunnyRabbit
Runaway
Runaway
Runaway
BunnyRabbit
Getaway
Getaway
BunnyRabbit Disappear

The author's comments:
Written somewhat in Correspondence with "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson

My own encounters with the Wolf has gotten me to lower my head in silence. BunnyRabbit no longer runs away.
