I Wait

I’m not waiting for a Facebook notification,
I’m not waiting for an email.
I’m not even waiting for a text.
I’m waiting for you to come spend forever with me.
But u aren’t coming, so I guess I’ll be waiting a while.

I’m not waiting for a surprise party
I’m not waiting for contractually money
I’m not even waiting for a pat on the back.
I’m waiting for you to be truthfully proud of me for once.
But it isn’t good enough so I guess I’ll try a little harder. Wait a little longer.

I’m not waiting for you to call me every day.
I’m not waiting for you to laugh at all my jokes.
I’m not even waiting for you to let me tell u everything.
I’m waiting for you to keep a promise you made.
But you’re busy so I have to wait for another week.

I know I’m not perfect
But who is.
I’m always coming second best
Even when I’m the best thing around.
I have to keep on waiting, waiting, waiting.
And I don’t want to wait anymore.

The men in my life have not failed to disappoint
From my father
To my best friend
To the boy I’m in love with.
And waiting is the toughest thing I have to do.

But I’m glad now that you’re coming to be with me.
That you’re proud of me.
That we can hang out today.
I’m glad I don’t have to wait anymore.

Because I wasn’t going to wait any longer.
