Mama Said

Mama said she sends her love
Don't take that as a request
To come back home
Though it would be so nice
So nice

Mama said she holds your picture each night
And tears fall onto the glass
That shields a snapshot of her baby
Before the poison took hold

I hear mama weep
It hurts
Because what plagues the mind
Has no cure
Except for it all to stop
For the needle to be smashed
And discarded
Never picked up again
She says your hands are too pure
Angel hands
She says

Mama quit praying
She took a drink and never stopped
Our family's a shredded shell
Of what was once something that thrived
Loved
Connected
She didn't want me to tell you that
Not about the bottle
But maybe now you'll see

Remember that day at the beach?
You, Mama, and I?
How we played
Splashed the salty water at each other
Made little castles
That stood proudly
Before the tides claimed them
Where did those days go?
Guess they just got lost
In this twisted scheme of things
Lost in your syringe

Mama's passed out now
And I'm not sure what to do
Just wanted to write you this letter
Since we haven't heard from you
In six months

Mama said she sends her love

I love this.  The structure is nice, and your imagery and wording is fantastic. It really captures the persective from outside of addiction looking in, the turmoil the family goes through.

I like this poem. It shows what a parent goes through as their child is off fighting in the war. That was interpretation of it at least. Keep writing poems, this is really good. My favorite quote is,"Mama said she holds your picture each night
And tears fall onto the glass

This one is really good. You did a great job with the voice of the narrator.

Good job, Coy :)
