Nephew MAG
He was the promise of
Eggs in spring and
Saplings rising through ice
Grabbing life by the hand and
Running off
But it didn't take long for
Individual panic
And small-scale mass hysteria
To set in, wondering
Where he had left his voice
They stand over him
Clucking like chickens
Over-enunciating words
Eyes fixed
On the movement of his mouth
Colored crayons falling
From small fingers
He escapes
And his freedom seems
Everlasting to me
At two and a half
He holds the world upside down
Ignoring our concerns
