This Heart
My heart is fragile now:
You have to keep it safe.
It was fragile before,
But not broken.
I’ve stitched myself up,
My wounds are only sore now.
But my heart can’t take being broken again.
She’s already tired of these games-
And they have just begun.
I’ve lost two rounds,
Three strikes:
I’m out.
I’ll give in.
I’m afraid of giving my heart away again,
For fear of the worst to occur,
Once again.
I had help with my stitches,
So I don’t expect them to fall out.
But if my heart gets played with..
I don’t know how she will take it.
The worst, I pray,
Is over.
And joy is soon to come.
My heart is set on this track.
There’s no turning back.
Maybe we’ve already won.
