The sirens were lifted,
my time had passed.
I walked stiffly to the frozen metal device,
and the wheels spun indifferently,
warning me,
taunting my well-being.
My pockets were full of treasures
for them to burn;
my life would never be the same,
they said.

How will I ever get a job,
now?
they asked.
