Winters finger tips
Spread through the fall
And reach into my spine
Making it stiffer than before

The hairs on the back of my neck rise
They cry out in surprise from the icy embrace
My calves tighten as I crouch to run
But winter won’t be having that,
Because she’s having too much fun

Fall kicked summer out of the way
After summer shoved spring into the next century
Now winter merges with fall
And drops of water freeze in the sky

Today as the snow began to fall
So did my entire school
We were devastated
Our warm days we gone

I cook my traditional dishes
In an iron skillet
As the gas company refills our tank
We need heat

My brother and parents devour my creations
And I start the crepes
When it is time for dessert they scarf it down too
There is hardly any left, I frown

With what I can manage to scrounge up
I manage to make some for the workers
Trying to warm up in their trucks
Then like my family they scarf them down
I leave without a sound

Snow crunching outside
I hear the heat come on before I feel it
Fall is now gone in just a day
She didn’t really even have time to fade away

Winter is here, she came with full force
Now I hear her and spring are getting a divorce
I clean up robotically
And go about the night

Trying not to cry because fall lost the fight
