Tolerance
Is a small blessing
I need it for who I live with

Silence
Is a small blessing
I don't want him to hear me cry out

Obedience
Is a small blessing
I have to do what he says

Pain
Is a small blessing
I have to know I'm still alive

The author's comments:
I think this could be broken down into a few facets, but what I'm really trying to focus on is Muslims (with no offense intended!!). I saw on the news that in Afghanistan (?) it was made legal for men to beat women as long as there were no physical marks. I saw that and thought it was terrible. This is supposed to be about a teenage girl who gets beaten by her father over there, but like I said, it could be interpreted different ways. (And like I said, I'm not trying to encourage prejudice against Muslims, but this is just how I feel about that law. I know not all Muslim men beat women, but making it legal?? Come one!)

I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying.

That was a good poem. And you are right, it is not right to beat on women.......
