Was it Worth it
I stand silent, waiting for the count.
Down,
Set,
Hit.
I explode forward with all my strength.
I am handed the brown oval ball,
and I run down the radiant green field.
I spin, juke, stiff arm, and charge
my way down the field for a touchdown.
My team mates cheer me, the crowd roars.
On my 22nd birthday comes a contract;
500,000 dollars on the first year,
to play professional football.
I have a blazing career;
Best in the League, five rings,
8 time pro-bowl, 6 time MVP.
And then…
Retirement.
Then I begin to wonder,
how important was all that?
