I am a penny, minted on March 11th, 1994.
My edges have been rimmed and beveled,
each formed from disappointment:
Mom leaving, parents' divorce,
my bruised relationship with my father,
losing my best friend to a temptress.

Costing more to be manufactured than actual worth,
I feel incredibly worthless, unneeded all because of you.
I am often forgotten.

Tossed, thrown and taken for granted,
I am treated as if I do not hold any power.
Disrespected, hurt, and meaningless to most,
What would you do without me?

30 million of me are created daily,
30 million thoughts process through my busy, shuffled mind.
Never staying on course,
I never follow through.

Polished and stamped, I am created for perfection.
Nothing but flawlessness is accepted.
I am a penny bronze and shiny, tossed and thrown.
