A heartbeat

in the moment,
quite possibly my last.
A salty tear

as it rolls down my cheek.
I promise myself that it will be my
last.
The lights,
the sirens,
all reduced to a steady hum.
The wind whipping my hair
tries to hold me back,
tries to restrain me,
but I remain

strong.
Falling forward
through the air,
twisting
and

tumbling,
my gleeful screams
lost in the wind.
Windows rush by
as I leave them behind.
Time slows down
as I look at the crowd
gathered

below.
I see faces
of those I know
and those I
love.
They have fear
in their teary eyes.
I look into their minds
and see

memories
of their

pasts
so often intersecting with mine.
My heart is beating fast,
as if it knows
that it’s about to be
silenced

forever.
Filling this moment
with a lifetime of

heartbeats.
My life begins to flash before my eyes,
a long and cruel tale,
only to end

in misery.
It begins to rain,
but I soon realize that they are

tears
coming from the heavens,
begging me to hold on.
I near the

ground,
the promise of an end.
So near,

yet so forgotten.
And as I try to hold on,
I begin to regret
this fatal

mistake.

I may not be perfect. But then again, I'm sure someone on the earth feels I am.

I really liked this, it was somewhat touching to me (:
