The choice words
That was said
May they rest in my head

A voice, so soft
So subtle and free
Swimming swiftly in the breeze

Lost in her words
Striking my heart
A special bond
Never shall part

A voice remembered
Until that stormy day
Torn from her mouth
Mama’s voice didn’t stay

Mama gave her voice
Another try
It fumbled, and pried
Mama’s voice was her guide

Finally a whisper,
From the back of her throat
Mama gave her voice away
Exchanged from some hope
