People, In General, and Me
What makes me tick?
What makes people,
In general,
And me,
Tick?
Love.
or like,
or appreciation,
or whatever you want to call it.
Love, or lack thereof,
makes the world,
go ‘round.
All you need,
is love.
The love of,
a parent, a sister, a brother
a friend, a teacher
a girlfriend, a boyfriend, a husband, a wife
the general public.
Fuels our words,
Emotions,
Actions,
In short,
It.
Makes.
Us.
Tick.
Pain.
Not pain, in itself,
But the avoidance,
of pain.
Pain of the foot,
the stomach,
the arm.
Pain of the mind,
the heart,
the soul.
Pain of death.
Avoiding pain fuels our words,
Our actions,
In short,
It.
Makes.
Us.
Tick .
Goals.
Goals to be,
Successful,
Rich,
Popular,
Goals to be,
A doctor, a Lawyer,
A Teacher, an Athlete,
Goals to,
Lose ten pounds,
Run farther,
Get an “A”,
The pursuit of so-called happiness,
Fuels our words,
Actions,
Emotions,
In short,
It.
Makes.
Us.
Tick.
Religion.
Religion, or lack thereof,
Is powerful.
People,
In general,
And me.
Base our lives,
On what is right,
And what is wrong,
And who’s in charge.
Some People,
In general,
And me
Pray,
Praise,
Give Thanks,
Read,
Travel,
Eat,
Think,
Believe,
And Live,
Based on religion (or lack thereof)
In short,
It .
Makes.
Us.
Tick.
The Little Things.
The Little Things are not always,
So little,
In their impact.
They make us happier, sometimes,
Than the big things
A promotion,
a Holiday
or something equally (un) important.
The Little Things,
A smile,
A laugh,
A good book,
A sunny day,
A thunderstorm,
When I’m Safe
In my bed
An honest compliment,
“You smell nice”
“Your eyes are pretty”
A hug,
A kiss,
Good advice,
Finding something you lost,
We want them, the little things,
or not
We have them, the little things
or not
They fuel our emotions
In short,
They.
Make.
Us.
Tick.
But Really,
People,
In general,
And me,
Are not predictable
That way
I can’t describe,
The motives for living of the general population
In a few pages of poetry
We
Think
Feel
Do
Live
Because ticking is for clocks.
