Vagrant
I walked down the street,
absorbed in myself,
in my world,
when He came to me,
staring,
with three yellow, chipped teeth
in his slack, open mouth
and unkempt hair on his face
He watched me,
saying nothing,
eyes aflame with anger
and disappointment
and in that moment,
I was struck
with the truth,
the inexorable truth,
that I was before God.
And knowing this,
I collapsed to the ground,
the will to stand stripped from me.
I cried deeply, in awe
and in terror,
and God kicked me in the ribs,
once, and again,
and took my wallet.
