Wisdom begins in wonder.

I am surrounded by
death.
i see it in the deer, lying
dead on the side of the
highway in the
winter,
and in the
grave stones in the
autumn,
bearing the names of those I've
known, and those I haven't.

I am Surrounded by
Life.
I hear it in the
laughter of
children , overjoyed by the
warmth of the
weather, and the
whistling birds that
sing with the
blossoming of the
spring.

I am surrounded by
change.
I feel it in the way my
lips and tongue grow
dry in the
sere air, and in the
dew that forms in the
tips of the
grass and the leaves in the
summer,
staying only until the
break of
day.

I am surrounded by
everything, and
i am apart of
everything, and
everything is
apart of
me.

The author's comments:
This piece was inspired when i saw my first dead deer on the side of the highway this past winter. It made me examine how everything effects everything around it, and how these effects, these changes, are sensed in all kinds of aspects of life at all different times. I realized that change is inevitable, but it should be embraced rather than fought.
