The Hall

The last of the wave recedes
And everything is quiet again
Nothing left but a few wisps
Of lonely, whispering spray
But even they don’t linger
Silence…
Silence…
The time grows
Nearer…
Nearer…
And then
The time has come
and the tide rushes in
Slow at first but grows
Faster…
Faster…
Swirling currents
Mingle on with another
The water whispers quietly
But raises gently in volume
Louder…
Louder…
Until it is a tumultuous roar
A shouting, writhing mass
Of whirling water
Hypnotizing…
Hypnotizing…
Rocks form and try to stop
The fascinating show
But do not succeed
Finally the water breaks it up
And continues flowing
Sliding…
Sliding…
The wave starts to shrink
Growing quieter
And slowly calms
Relaxing…
Relaxing…
The last of the wave recedes
And everything is quiet again

But not for long…
