The border in the yard
It’s marked
set in stone
by a trail of cigarettes.
The ashes
Marking:
You, on this side
You, on the other.
The border in the yard
is shown as well
in the tufts and curls of wild, wild weeds
that spring up in the earth
that separates:
You, to this side
You, to the other.
The border in the yard
divides the old and the older
the rusted and ruined
From
The worn and the weary.
You, on this side
You, on the other.
And I –
We –
We stand
on this very border
of flowers
and ash.
