Who helps those without a place to call home?
Who puts food into the stomach of the hungry?
Who gives strength to the spines of the weak?
Not us. Not us humans.

Who care not what we give,
but what we get.
Not the problems of others,
but our own.

We worry because we didn't have lunch one day.
We worry because our stomachs aren't filled with food.
They worry because they don't have lunch anyday.
They worry because their stomachs are never filled with food.

We take what we want,
and give much less than that.
We complain when we have to give something,
yet we expect to get things in return.

They have nothing,
and give everything they have.
They have no cellphones, no Ipods, no computers, no heaters, like us, but they give all they can.

Why must we be so greedy?
So cruel?
Careless?
Grabbing what we want any chance we get.

Do we not notice?
Do we not care?
Why do we ignore the man dying of hunger?
Why do we pretend we don't see?

Do we pity them?
Or just know what they need,
we wont give?
Know they need what we want,
and we know we wont give that up for them.

They are isolated from us because we have ignored them.
Pushed them to the side...
Told them, by how we act, they are less than us.
Like aliens on their own planet, their own world.

Homeless or not,
their people not animals.
They shouldn't be shoved to the side.
Ignored, and isolated, struggling to survive.

They need money, yeah.
They need shelter too.
But most of all acceptance.
Shown they are worthy of having a good life.

Shown that they don't hve to struggle alone.
Who helps those without a place to call home?
Who puts food into the stomach of the hungry?
Who gives strength to the spines of the weak?

The author's comments:
I remember one morning I was complaining because I didn't want to eat what we had for breakfast. Then I realized what I was saying. I was complainig because I had food to eat. I thought of the people who woke up that morning and had nothing to eat. This is what inspired me to write my poem.
