Poppies Blooming
Bright blue skies,
Dotted with puffy clouds
Thousands of red poppies,
All abloom
They are perfect,
Almost surreal
Tall wild grass encloses our ankles
Our hats and dresses blow,
In the steady rhythm of the breeze.
Sadness engulfs us,
To thick to hide
Goodbyes are never easy,
Nor ever fun
Crying inside us,
But we shall not dare show it.
We gracefully leave
Not like sad children,
But strong women
Keeping our heads held high.
We look back one more time,
We can’t see you anymore.
You left us you abandoned us,
Leaving us alone.
We now have to go on,
With our lives
We look for you one more time,
but all there is left is the beautiful fragrance
of blooming poppies.
