The Killing Tides

The killing tides
Roll back and forth
Hypnotizing onlookers
With an intricate rhythm
Hidden within their
Endless, purple depths

The killing tides
Pounce upon any
Ship that crosses their path
Gnawing
Gnawing away
At timber and steel
'Til only a pitiful
Skeleton remains

The killing tides
Reflect no sunlight
Upon their surface
Leaving questions
Sought-after answers
Trapped under
Flowing skin

The killing tides
Strike with an elegance
That no mortal could
Possibly imitate
No matter how vicious
Or well-planned his
Attack may be

Oh killing tides
What a beautiful fate
It may be
To get washed away
And swallowed by you
Even a man who
Fears death most of all
Would be hypnotized
By your lethal dance

He wouldn't complain

Killing tides
Killing tides
Roll on
