Sleeping In This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

The sun is trying to reach me again –
shoving his wrists past my window blinds
curling his fingers against my shoulder blades.
He wears a smile that seems to stretch
not just from cheek to cheek
but from sea to sea
wide with desperation and hope.

He's a stunning sight at dawn
but my eyes are still burnt
after watching him drop from the skyline
every twilight
to see you.

And I can't live without the sun
but I'm vindictive enough
to pull the sheets over my head

and make him wait until noon.

I love it when I find a gem like this that puts all the others to shame. Thank you for writing something happy and uplifting. I try to write the same kind of stuff, but it's not good enough to get in the mag, so congrats and thanks again:) You're incredible.

Poems like these are why I read any poems at all on teenink . They're why I write . It's so different from the usual woe-is-me sort of stuff . it's refreshing and i love it . <3
