My Cottage

you ran up to my quiet stone woodland cottage
and do you know what you did?
you smashed my windows,
and tore down my walls
that I worked so hard to build
around myself.
Then you snatched my heart
off of the kitchen counter
and ran away from me,
squeezing my still beating heart between your palms
and cackling like a leprechaun.
And I know you have no intention
of keeping my heart,
you just don’t want anyone else to have it.
