A thousand times I've kissed him
But not once outside a dream.
A thousand tears I've cried for him
But not one has he seen.
A thousand times I've called his name
And woken from my sleep.
A thousand times I've wished for him
But all I can do is weep.
A thousand times I've cursed the fate
That keeps us still apart.
A thousand times I've had to mend
My sore and broken heart.
A thousand times I've wished again
For him to pull me near.
A thousand times I've had to lie
For it is him I hold most dear.
A thousand times I've seen him
And still had to pretend.
A thousand times I've hoped
He could be more than just my friend.
