Jester

I am from a family
Of intelligent, kind people
Where I can say what I feel without being judged
Where we can share stories of our day
Then I can laugh like a jester
I am from a family

I am from a city
Of wavering skies
Where the flowers bloom
And give hidden gifts of happiness
Where the sun sets
And rises up again

I am from a family
That loves to travel to foreign lands
And experience new sensations
My parents love to sail
‘Cross wavering seas
Their feet shod in Birkenstocks

I am from a city
Where the lights can turn off
Oh but a flicker
But they always turn back on
And illuminate the lives of whom they touch

This poem is about my family and how their kindness made my life what it is today. And how even if we have fights, "the lights will always turn back on again."
