I quiet myself on a long lonely night
Dreaming of a future that ill never be
With all the things that will never lay ahead
My heart refills with weary regret
And heart sickening worry each day
Compassionate life does not exist
My ignorant fellow man does not see
Nor can my deafening cries or remorse change his ways
My destiny is set in impermeable stone
My fellow man will never let it go
A sad soul still chained in long memories that replay
My fellow man never ceases to repeat
The chances I won’t ever have
To know a kinder grace
Granted without being earned
To hear a gentle voice forgive
Those things which I have done
My fellow man will not forget
Nor let me leave a grisly past behind
