You might remember
you and me
eight years old
barbie games
and imagination.
You might remember
both of us
grade seven
drama
boys and gossip.
Then
first year of high school.
You might remember
me. And you
changing
changing clothes
changing opinions
and boyfriends
broken hearts.
You said
“I'm branching out.”
and I stayed behind.
I learned band aids don't fix things
forever.
But what you won't remember
is how I wish I could
go back.
Press the undo button,
try to see things from your side
and mean it
when I said I understood.
I just can't go another day
wondering why
we silently said
goodbye.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem about a life-long friend of mine, and our relationship. After she made some unwise choices, we just sort of stopped talking, and she switched schools. I wish I had done a better job of understanding her hurt, and being a friend.

This is lovely and so well written, and you portrayed the pain so well I was left with a kind of achey breathless feeling afterwards. I think we've had some hurt from a failing friendship, but yours sounds particurly hard and I'm sorry you had to go through this:( I know its not much consolation, but a truly brilliant piece has come out of all of it, and you have a real gift:)  *extremely long and waffly comment over and out*
