A Point Of No Return

The sinking feeling in your stomach
The catch and hitch of your heartbeat
The closing in your too tight throat
And the damp fog that settles in your mind.
Regret.
The “what ifs”
“I wish”
and “should haves”.
The realization of
it's
too
late.
Wanting more than anything to just go back
Pleading with greater powers for one more chance
Saying “I'm sorry” over and over to someone no longer there
Living the rest of your life wishing to change the impossible, to fix what's broken and struggling to accept that
you
never
will.
Regret.
