Wake up early every morning
With barely an hours rest
Wishing for more time to sleep
But much too stressed
Grab our backpacks
That weigh heavy on our shoulders
Filled with giant books and binders
Feels like we’re carrying boulders

Arrive at school just on time
Barely skate into class
Get a dirty look from your teacher
Tell them you ran out of gas
Working hard all day long
To take notes and pass a test
It never seems good enough
You just have to settle with your best

Finally the day is done
But wait there’s still more
Can’t forget about sports
We must strengthen our core
Home again home again
Can’t believe it’s that late
Hours of work left to do
No way you’ll be in bed by eight

I was inspired to write this piece by Rudyard Kipling's The White Man's Burden.
