Pavement
The cracks in the sidewalk led me to you.
I stare down at the pavement, damaged and skewed.
A reflection of hard workers, pets and thieves
Pacing, trotting, chased on the streets.
The footprints that have stepped it are one in the same
Always in a hurry and ready to blame.
But this sidewalk is different,
for me it is new.
It is not broken or cracked
or damaged or skewed.
This sidewalk is relief of the days I have lived
For you are at the crossroads where my life shall begin.
