There fire inside of me
Has been there all along.
Burning gently,
And warming a song.
Giving me hope,
And giving me light,
Yet I know your messiah
Has brought it to fight.
And I was never
Made of stone.
The fire inside of me
Was never alone.
Where you see all your dreams fulfilled,
I see mine are lost.
And where you find all your strength,
I can see the cost.
It sweeps across the nation,
And it’s able to touch all.
You call it your hero,
And I call it my fall.

I didn’t always know
Where my fire lies,
What would stir it up,
And what would raise my cries.
There are things that I have always known
Would be worth a fight,
Only a few that I would die for,
And their burden isn’t light.
But now I’m not waiting,
For you to start it first.
I won’t be ashamed to begin this fight,
For better or for worse.
In it you see everything
That’s ever fueled your fire,
But all I see are broken dreams
And a damper on desire.
It sweeps across the nation
And it’s able to touch all.
You call it your hero,
And I call it my fall.

Not everyone can name
What they’re fighting for.
Not everybody’s willing
To join in a war.
So will you watch your resolve
Simply fade and burn out,
Or will you stand and raise your voice,
And never cease to shout?
If you’re just here today
To go to sleep tonight,
Do you, too, see in this
Your brightest shining light?
Because in it you see
All the greatness of man.
It represents everything
That tells you that you can.
It sweeps across the nation
And it’s able to touch all.
You call it your hero,
And I call it my fall.

I’ve always wished the best
For those who earn their way,
And for those that refuse to try
I have nothing to say.
But until now I’ve considered you
An American, thus friend.
I don’t want to turn on that
Unless it means the end.
In this you see everything
You could never be.
Something understanding,
As real as you and me.
All you see is glory from the
Flawless demigod.
Monument of virtue,
And you can’t help but be awed.
It sweeps across the nation
And it’s able to touch all.
You call this our hero,
I call this our fall.
