Ten
It is pitch black. I here the murmuring of the crowd, which adds to the adrenaline pulsating through my veins.
Nine
Blindly, I find my way across stage. Arms outstretched, I rely on my fellow actors to guide me.
Eight
The tension is palpable. I find my place next to my opposite. We squeeze hands; one last silent break-a-leg wish.
Seven
My eyes are accustomed to the light. I see actors and techies alike scrambling to their spots.
Six
I look down, focusing my breath and calming the tempestuous beating of my heart.
Five
The house lights go down. The auditorium is silenced.
Four
The curtains open and I am blinded by the stage lights.
Three
I quickly scan the silhouetted audience, unable to see their faces for the glare
Two
Deep breathe
