before I sleep

the conflicts that you wake to
never follow you to bed
the sentiment it represents
lingers long after the rose is dead
it's lovely that you love me
and that's all that she said
eyes close, jaw tightens
deep breathe, visage whitens
check to make certain - cheeks remain dry
a quick glance up and a momentary sigh
then blank stares
oh who cares?
I'll never have to see you again
