People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.

Scratch this, scratch that
Into the waste bin it flies
No, that’s not good
And its friend joins

Scratch this, scratch that
Switch the lines here
Adjust a word there
Ugh, still horrible
Ball up the paper yet again

Scratch this, scratch that
Why doesn’t anything sound right
Crumble it up, shoot
If only this was basketball
For every mistake, two points
At least I’ve mastered my hook shot

Scratch this, scratch that
A new paper, a clean start
Nothing is… wait scratch that
I’m done, finally finished
Mere inches of a poem
Countless hours of writing
And only one overflowing trashcan
