The Beast

My true self is placed, ever so cleverly
Between my lips
So I stay quiet to ensure that
There he remains

This world is not a place for him
Not for one as small as he
So I bite down hard with eyes slammed tight
When he tries to escape

Until at night, in the dark
He crawls out to stretch out
When I’m too weak to stop
Then the beast can have his turn

Roaring to life,
He does his damage
With strong arms and gnashing teeth
Until we grow weary together

For then, in the morning,
He returns to his home.
You see, this world is not a place for him
Not for one as small as he
