"Broken Headphones"

I lay awake at night…unsettled…
Battling with the insomnia of my emotions…
He lies next to me…sleeping so sound…
Staring at his back turned…looking like an empty canvas waiting to be painted…
He’s tainted…
Angry, mad at the world because nobody thinks like him…he’s alone.
Lost in outer space…but he cannot phone home…
He’s blunted on reality like the Fugees…
Seems like lately he’ll trade in his soul for a few g’s
He claims we have nothing in common…says we’re nothing alike…
There’s no room for me in his World…he only loves his mic…
Hates just taking my word for it…he lives in disbelief…
Came to the realization that no matter how broken my heart is the World won’t stop for my grief…
He’s in a zone, pen in hand…staring at the wall…thoughts consumed by words that rhyme
Realizing that letting him consume my thoughts day after day…is only a waste of time…
I search his eyes for a trace of me…he stares back at me, eyes vacant…
His face mask like…voice unexpressive…yet feelings unconditional.
Always told that real men show no emotion…but not having a father…let him build his own definition..
Yells, saying he cant change the present situation, he’s not a magician…
He’s distant…
He emotionally disconnected, yet, on his sleeve his heart still resides…
His insecurities weighin em down…he must be ugly on the inside…
“Gotta make it”…embedded in his brain…like he’s stuck in cement…
But nothing lasts forever…not even talent.
Paint a portrait of a bittersweet love gone wrong…
Its us.
He writes lyrics trying to free himself from me…
I write poems trying to free myself from him…
We’re running.
Two people can look at the same thing and see something totally different..
He looks in the mirror and see’s the future, I look at him and see my present…
Wishing I was a ghost…wishing I was anywhere but here…
Keep clicking my heels three times…but I just can’t disappear…
