Her name is Grace.
People don’t see behind her pretty face.
Her happy smile.
Her brilliant and charming attitude.
Her fun-loving nature.
She seems like Perfect Grace.
Her name is Grace.
And behind all her blonde curls
lies a frightened girl
scarred with terrible memories
that she wishes would just disappear.
Memories that haunt her every morning
Every afternoon
Every night
Every time she needs help
Every time no one is there.
Thus is the life of Perfect Grace.
Her name is Grace.
Her mother died when she was fourteen.
Her father became abusive and
powerful enough that there are welts
running along her stomach.
Her little sister is more like her child.
Her little brothers are the same way.
Her shoulders bear the responsibility
of what her mother left behind.
She feels no longer like Perfect Grace.
Her name is Grace.
And behind her smiling face
lies a girl deep with anguish.
A girl whose dreams were crushed.
A girl whose life was ruined.
A girl whose days are more like a countdown till the end.
A girl who misses the title ‘Perfect Grace.’
Her name is Grace.
The reason for her misery?
One dumb drink
one dumb driver had.
One dumb mistake
ruined the life of Perfect Grace.
Her name is Grace.
And all she asks now
is that one driver won’t make that mistake.
That one family
can stay the way they are
and not suffer what she has.
That one pretty little girl
can stay a Perfect Grace.
