Please, look away.
I don't want you to worry.
I don't want you to see beyond my fake,
I don't want you to see my pain.
Please, look away.
Don't look too closely at my smile,
Don't discover my secret,
Don't see that I'm hiding.
Turn away before you figure it out.
Make me laugh cause it's easier.
Please, look away.
You know I'm not happy,
Just keep denying it.
It's easier for everybody this way.
We always pretend, why stop now?
Tell yourself nothing's wrong.
Maybe you'll be right.
Just please look away,
Don't study my face.
Don't look too close.
Let's deny the hurt.
It doesn't hurt.
Please, please, I'm begging you,
Don't look away.

I'm just beginning to write poetry, although I have always liked it. This piece is just about a difficult time I think most have been through when you fake a smile so no one else will worry about you.

My English teacher says that some poems have lines that make the poem "worth the price of admission."

Well, your lines, "Tell yourself nothing's wrong.

Maybe you'll be right."

are simply amazing.

I REALLY like this poem, and love that you chose to express the idea with a speaker addressing someone else. Great job! It's really powerful!
