A Mistake

By , houston, TX
A mistake.
A mistake is what I am.

With a blank screen.
With a mind that is blank.
With a mind with no thoughts.

A mistake.
A mistake is what I am.

Past memories come flooding back.

Words,
oh hurtful words that they use.

a mistake,
a mistake is what I am,

I am fighting to show that I am no mistake,
that I am worth every second,
that I am worth every breath that I take.

I never take anything for granted,

a mistake.
A mistake is what I am.

When I breathe
I try to keep the words out of my mind,
it is impossible,

a mistake,
a mistake is what I am.

It seems that when I try
I am just another failure,
I cannot move past the past.

A mistake.
A mistake is what I am.

Oh mother what do you see when you look me in the eyes?
Is it a mistake?

Oh grandmother what is it that you see when you look at me?
Is it the mistake that I am?

Oh father what is it you hear when you talk to me?
Is it that I am a mistake?

Oh sisters what is you feel when you hug me?
Is it that I am a mistake?

The past memories come flooding back.

All I can hear is the words,
oh hurtful words.

A mistake.
A mistake is what I am.

Is that what I am?

Is that what you see when look me in the eyes,
when you see me,
when you speak to me,
when you touch me?
