In the distance

At crack of dawn, a new day had begun,
Main street is still, and its lights are on.
The morning mists had started to grow,
But in the distance, dark clouds began to show.

A young man rose out of his bed,
Walked to school without a sense of dread.
In his eyes, his future was clear as snow,
But in the distance, dark clouds began to show.

A soldier keeps watch in a concrete bunker,
His job pay his bills, and grow with the years.
They think death and doom belong to years ago,
But in the distance, dark clouds began to show.

An old man wakes up in the morn at four,
Woken by the neighbor's birds, not their snores.
Peace enters his mind, and exits his memories of foes,
But in the distance, dark clouds began to show.

They face the inevitable end, back bowed
Death is all mighty, and it conquers all.
But in the distance, light pierces the dark cloud.
And hope fills the world, and answers its call.
