Out and Not Proud This work is considered exceptional by our editorial staff.

F*g, f****t, d***, l****
“You probably have guy parts,
‘cause you like girls, d***!”
Every day I hear this thrown around.
At school, at home, in public,
It doesn’t matter where.
And the worst bit is that most people
Don’t know who I am--
Even if I don’t try to hide it.
They just throw it all around like it’s nothing.
What if they found out?
Mom is fine,
But what about Dad?
Would he hate his own daughter?
And what about my classmates? Teachers?
Would they avoid me?
Would the girls freak out
And think I “like” them?
Every day I’m just so scared
That they see my thoughts and know
That I’m out and not proud.
