I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. (C.S. Lewis)

Everywhere I look
A man and a woman
Are holding hands
A subtle sign of affection

One hand a receiver
The other a receiver
One hand a giver
The other a giver
Each one perfectly selfish and selfless

A scaled down version of an embrace
The intertwining of physical limbs
Reflects yearning for
Intertwining of spirit
To understand, to know

A physical testament to acceptance of a relationship
A testament to commitment
To status
To public expression
To mutual submission

Lone hands are cold
shaking
unsure
what about them?

The author's comments:
I was being driving home from Chicago, and I kept on looking out of the window as I passed over the bridge. Everywhere, literally everywhere, there were people holding hands. Anyway, my frustration from a lack of such a relationship ultimately penned this poem.
Lately, I have been thinking about heat of one's body affects the touch.
