Disillusionment

when I told you that I loved you
and opened up my heart
did you peer into the crevices
and try to find your way through the dark

or did you only see yourself—
beauty tainted by vapid sense
you narcissus reincarnate
I pity your lack of depth

why do I bother to look into your soul
and peruse from convulsion to convocation
while you ignore my every act
my acts of initiation

while I travel down this road,
disappointed and discontent,
I wait to watch you fade away
and know that things must be better…
