My great grandfather
Is aged 92
What a life he lived,
His first job paid 23 cents an hour
His first apartment was rented for 14 dollars a month
The thing he has seen
The changes he has witnessed
Since he took his first steps
But he has taken his last
Now bound to a wheel chair
And he can hardly see
Yes, my great grandfather
Once the strong young man
Now confined in so many ways

He has been in the hospital for many long days
Some say he needs to go
Naturally, people want him to say
It will sad to see him go,
I believe he will feel joy
Being able to see his siblings
And parents
Who he hasn't seen in 20 years
His mothers gleaming smile
His fathers warm but stern look
So many people he misses
He needs to be relieved of his pain

I wonder if my heart will change
Once his pain has ended
I will miss his beautiful smile
Heartfelt words
Spoken in his strong Cajun accent
But my heart will heal on it's own time
One day when I will be relieved of my pain
I will hear his loving words again
