Virginity

Called a precious gift
A sacred right
Don’t give it away,
To just any old boy,
Said this by
Society,
God,
Friends,
Mom,
Dad…
And yet,
The sweet temptation
Of hormonal first love
Breathes down my neck
And kisses my throat.
Whispers sweet nothings
In my left ear,
Fingers curling softly
In my hair, brushing my scalp
With the touch of nonexistence
Begging me
Persuading me
With a sweetened artificial song
Do I give in?
Do I resist?
Give in, says his voice
Resist, says my heart
Give in, says my body
Resist, says the rest of the world
And yet-
They aren’t here
In this velvet air, breathing in the scent of his skin
Mind becoming dizzy from
His
Intoxication. A gasp comes to my lips,
And then is smothered by his kiss
This little world we have created,
Is destined for a short life and a quick Armageddon
I’m a smart girl
A level-headed person
A mature woman
A different soul
Tonight I take on the role
Of a lustful teenager,
A crazed youth
Desperate for a
Loving touch,
Starved for physical comfort
So I give in,
To sin
And whisper the word he long to hear,
The one I am terrified to say,
Yes.
