My apology

This is just to say
I’m sorry for taking your gum today.
it was just so tempting,
with its mouth-watering fruity scent
and scrumptious tropical twist flavoring,
I had to grab a piece,
coincidentally, it was the last piece.

So how should I repay you?
I have no gum to give,
or money to spare,
but I sure do have a lot of love,
will one hug make you forgive?

Don’t worry; you’re not the only victim,
there have been plenty others,
just ask them,
I’m their public enemy
number one.

The author's comments:
This poem was inspired by the poet William Carlos Williams. He created the first "This is just to say..." poem, and his light-hearted, yet somewhat sympathetic poetry gave me the idea to write my own form of an apology poem.

I reckon that would make us all public enemies...hm. Good work!
